Lapis Lazuli is normally a mixture of three minerals, Lazurite, calcite, and pyrite (which gives it, it's golden/slate colored sparkle). Lapis (Persian for "blue") has been revered and used for a millenia across the globe from Egypt to India. Lapis prized for it's rich Cobalt blue color and golden sparkle had ancient uses like protection from witches and cures for vomitting.
